"transcript": "Before we begin answering this question about who has the most gold, let me weekly bullion market update you right here on some recent ongoings within the broader gold industry. There were a bunch of large financial conferences and related quotes this week coming out of Sorrento, Italy. Perhaps the largest central banker quoted on gold was the President of the German Central Bank. Rising government debt levels strengthens the case for central banks to increase their gold holdings, according to Bundesbank President Joachim Nagel. Quote, The recent rise in global government bond yields has boosted the relative attractiveness of debt securities again. He said on Monday. At the same time, rising debt levels have increased concerns about the credit risk of these assets. Furthermore, geopolitical risks are likely to continue to shape reserve management decisions. Speaking in Sorrento, Italy, Nagel concluded that, taken together, the case for further diversification into gold remains significant for central banks. Said Nagel, over in Sorrento, Italy. The most aggressive official gold reserve buyer in the EU currently is bought over 100 tons this year, uh which apparently 25 tons were recently added. Poland's gold reserves are heading to their 700 ton target perhaps by the end of this year. The People's Bank of China added over 23 tons of gold last month. That is the heaviest monthly gold bullion buy for them in over three years. Officially, China has about 77.5 million ounces of gold officially, or 2,410 metric tons. Chinese gold imports have been very strong of late. Locally, gold buyers are buying the price dip in both investment and high-grade jewelry formats. Most of the gold that's coming into China, it's not flowing out. And that's been the way it's been, uh probably since I've been in this industry, pretty much all the way since the 2008 global financial crisis. The vast majority of the gold of gold that goes into China never comes out. We're seeing similar trends for Hong Kong. Large demand for gold imports relative to recent historical levels. The World Gold Council reported recently their Q3 2026 demand for unsecured gold ETFs was strongest in fiat dollar terms on record, with over 30 billion net flowing into various gold price proxies around the world. European investors led the way with this trend. North America was close second. In terms of the actual physical gold market, and answering who has the most gold, the question needs to be more precise. In other words, we need to find who is. If we judge by physical flow data over the past three decades or so, one might say the nations of India or China at large have the most gold collectively privately held. But what about nations or monetary unions and their official gold reserve holdings? It's a long list of 100 or so countries who reports to the IMF to hold gold bullion in their nation's reserves. At the very, very top, the usual suspects. They include Turkey, Japan, India, Switzerland, China, Russia, France, Italy, Germany, and the USA. If we take into account monetary unions and take their word as being as bullion good over their bonds, well, the European Union has close to 12,500 tons of gold reserves combined amongst all their respective national holdings. Often carrying them on balance sheets in line items called gold revaluation accounts. Which brings me to this week, this weird viral AI clip, which reminded me of how for nearly two decades being in this industry that's rather weird. There remains more than ever long running beliefs in varied pet theories that when confidence in this current system fully breaks down bad enough, and everything seems to be coming undone at the seams. Treasuries, central banks, and many of the largest trading nations in the world will be forced to convene and print up a gold revaluation price exorbitantly high enough to help restore solvency and confidence in the evolving structural financial system. After this break, we'll lock in on current spot prices and precious metals forecasts for the next 12 months or so. We'll cover a lot further interesting gold, silver, and platinum related analysis and commentary also out of Sorrento, Italy this week. We're going to be right back with that. Where America buys physical gold and silver. The spot silver and gold prices were flat to slightly up respectively this week. The spot silver price closed at $60.66 cents an ounce bid. The spot gold price ended up on the week at $4195.48 an ounce bid. The spot gold silver ratio ended this week lower, closing at 69. The London Bullion Market Association had their annual LBMA conference this week in Sorrento, Italy. The polling of price projections across delegates in attendance called for gold's price to rise over $5,013 an ounce by next year's conference around this time, 12 months from now. These delegates also predicted the silver price 12 months from now to be 97 bucks an ounce. London Precious Metals Market Consultancy, Metals Focus, also published from Sorrento, Italy this week with the following commentary on gold, silver, and platinum. Metals Focus wrote, In the near-term, above-target US inflation and the prospect of further Fed tightening will remain the key headwind to gold investment, particularly if the Iran conflict remains prolonged and energy prices stay elevated. However, Metals Focus does not expect there to be a full-blown rate-hike cycle, as risks to economic growth should constrain the Fed's ability to tighten aggressively. The resulting trade-off between inflation and growth should reinforce gold's role as a portfolio diversifier, particularly with US equities trading record levels. More importantly, as concerns over the sustainability of US debt continue to grow, we believe the outlook for gold remains strong. Large government deficits, rising debt-servicing costs and uncertainty surrounding US policy should encourage further diversification away from traditional dollar assets, particularly among institutional and official sector investors. Central banks are also expected to remain substantial net buyers, providing an important floor for gold during periods of investor liquidations. Even if the ongoing Middle East conflict moves towards resolution, fragmented global trade and persistent geopolitical risks should provide support. Investment demand is therefore expected to remain the principal driver of gold prices over the next 12 months, with physical investment forecast to reach a record high. Reflecting all this, we expect gold to reach fresh all-time highs in 2027, generating an annual average of $5,330, up 16% y/y. On the silver side, Metals Focus had the following to say: Silver is expected to strengthen over the next 12-18 months, benefiting from many of the same supportive macroeconomic factors as gold. Importantly, its relative underperformance since the January peak has improved its value proposition, as evidenced by a recent recovery in ETP inflows and futures positioning. However, physical market conditions are considerably less supportive than a year ago. Weak Western bar and coin demand, sharply lower Indian imports and the recovery in the London free float have eased the liquidity pressures that helped propel silver higher in late 2025 and early 2026. Meanwhile, high prices are weighing on jewellery and silverware demand, while thrifting and substitution, particularly in photovoltaics, are expected to see industrial fabrication ease back. As a result, we expect future gains to be driven primarily by renewed investor interest rather than physical tightness. This should see the white metal broadly track gold higher initially, before increasingly outperforming as renewed price momentum encourages investors to rebuild exposure. And finally, Metals Focus had the following to say on platinum: Platinum has seen pronounced volatility in 2026, achieving a record high of $2,923 in January before retreating sharply as speculative positioning unwound. Even so, prices have remained comfortably above 2025 levels, with platinum expected to average $1,930 in 2026, up 51% y/y. The rally has been supported by strong investor participation, including the launch of platinum futures on the GFEZ, along with broader strength across precious metals. Although speculative activity and physical tightness have since eased, the market remains undersupplied. Repeated deficits are drawing down above-ground stocks, while the location and ownership of remaining inventories limit the amount of metal readily available to the market. We forecast a fifth consecutive deficit in 2027, albeit far narrower. As a result, platinum is forecasted to average $2,060 an ounce in 2027, up 7% year-over-year.
