The speaker identifies key resistance at the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level of 1.4292 and initial support at the monthly open of 1.4233. A confirmed daily close above 1.4293 is needed to signal a resumption of the broader uptrend towards targets like 1.4335 and 1.4374-1.4383. Conversely, a slip below 1.4193 could trigger a larger correction.",

"transcript": "Hey traders, today is Thursday, October 8th, and I'm Michael Boutros, Senior Market Analyst with StoneX here for a quick multi-time frame look at the Canadian Dollar. So we're poised to mark a fifth consecutive weekly advance with Dollar CAD rallying more than 4% off of that August low. We've been tracking this ascending pitchfork formation off of the yearly lows. You got a nice rebound back in August and September. With that rally now halting this week at a major Fibonacci level, the 618 retracement of the entire 2020-2025 decline gives you 42.92. The weekly and monthly opening range is taking shape just below that level. I'll be looking for a breakout in the weeks ahead, in the days ahead for some guidance here. All things held constant, the median line right now converges on the June high-week close. That gives you 41.93. And the focus is on this near-term range breakout for guidance. Here's what it looks like on the daily chart. You can really see the breadth and the magnitude of this advance more clearly here. Out of the last 21 days, we've only had three down days in Dollar CAD. Here's the rally breaking through resistance last month, right into the close of the month, and the October opening range taking shape right above 41.93 into 1.42. That's the June high-day close and the high-week close. And then that 618 retracement at 42.92. We actually registered a high this week right at 1.4293. So we're right there. The focus is on a breakout of this key zone. Note that momentum still remains in overbought condition. There is a support trigger that we've been tracking here that's still in play. So we are the bulls still have the momentum profile, but certainly if we were to break that slope, if we were to slip back below 41.94, would threaten the potential for a larger correction within this uptrend in the days ahead. Here's what it looks like on the four-hour chart. Really tight, beautiful ascending pitchfork just off the September lows. The interior levels have been guiding price action with some precision here. You can see right into the start of the week, the 75% parallel converged right on that 618. We got the kickback, support yesterday off of the lower parallel, and it puts into focus again the entire monthly and weekly opening range is defined by this key range. Now, initial support comes in right at the objective monthly open. That's 42.33. Converges today, tomorrow, basically on that lower parallel. Initial resistance 42.93, 42.92. We need a break, a daily close, ideally a weekly close above this zone to mark resumption of the broader uptrend. Your first level will be the 1618 extension of the entire January advance. That opens up 43.35. Just higher, you have the March high-week close from 2025 and the objective 2025 yearly open. That gives you 43.74 into 43.83. That level into the next couple of weeks converges on the 75% parallel of the broader yearly uptrend. So certainly, key target on the upside if we break. Now, a downside break below 42.33 would have us focused on the monthly and weekly range lows. It's the slip below 41.93 that would be needed to suggest a more significant near-term highs in place and the potential for a larger correction here. Downside levels in that scenario would be 41.40 and a basic 382 retracement of the advance just off the lows that we registered back in August gives you 40.79. Look for a larger reaction there if reached. Look, all things held constant, if Dollar CAD is heading higher on this stretch, losses would need to be limited to 1.42, 1.4193. Need a confirmed daily close above 42.93 to really feel the next major leg of the rally. We do get some Fed speakers on tap later today. I'm not sure we'll get too much volatility off that. The FOMC minutes yesterday weren't really surprising. We knew it was a unanimous vote for the last rate increase. And certainly, all of the Fed members have been harking this willingness to wait and see what the inflationary picture looks like. Fed fund futures are pretty much priced out the potential for a rate hike this month, but December is still looking at around roughly 86% that we'll see at least another 25 basis points in further increases from the Fed. Heading into the close of the week, tomorrow you do get an update on Canadian employment data. We're looking for a print of about 7,000 with unemployment widely expected to uptick from 6.4 to 6.5%. Right after that, we get the release of the consumer Michigan surveys. And certainly, that's going to be critical to keep in mind the inflationary component of that as we head into the close of the week. Next week, we actually get the real inflation read with that Consumer Price Index on Wednesday. It will be a critical print as markets try to gauge what the path is for monetary policy, not just into the close of this year, but moving ahead. Certainly, in the last day or so, we've seen an increased uptick in some volatility in the Middle East. You see oil prices moving higher again today. So we'll be keeping an eye on that inflationary picture and what it means for the Fed moving ahead. We'll try to keep you updated as always on MBForex. Till then, best of luck trading. We'll see you next week. Cheers.",
