Speakers highlighted the importance of understanding regional economic structures and the contributions of local institutions like the Nebraska State Fair. An economic impact study from 2010 suggested the fair contributed $20 million to the economy, a figure expected to be higher now due to increased activities.",

"transcript": "It's important to make sure that we include perspectives that come from throughout the region that we represent. In our case, that's seven states in the middle of the country. And we need to spend deliberate time in a community to really be able to understand the structure of that community, the structure of the economy. And spend some time here seeing it hands-on so that when we go describe it in other places, we feel like we have a really good sense of that. Yeah, I think, you know, our community here in Central Nebraska has a lot to offer from a tourism standpoint. You might not think of Central Nebraska as being that, but we've had the opportunity last couple days to look at the Nebraska State Fair. Uh, we have live horse racing, we have a new casino that's put in place. We have all sorts of activities that are taking place here in this community that unless you come out here and you see it, you you probably wouldn't expect that would be the case. After the fair moved here and opened in 2010, we did an economic impact study. And that economic impact study suggested that the operations of the fair year-round, as well as the 11 days of the fair itself, contributed $20 million to our economy. That was 16 years ago. I can only imagine what that number is now with the increased activities on the grounds as a result of having the buildings that were built for the Nebraska State Fair. Each one of these stops that we make, and and we we try to be as aggressive as anyone to try to really leverage these amazing board networks and then uh call a call to action uh forming round tables to really get a sense on a real-time basis what's happening in in both the community and regional economies. I have a an obvious love and bias for Central Nebraska. I grew up in Nebraska on the Eastern end. Grand Island and the central part of Nebraska is one of those really quiet but powerful economic engines.",
