"transcript": "My experience driving on Route 66 is that it makes your soul bigger. I feel so much of that history when you're driving along a road that other people have been driving in all sorts of circumstances for decades and decades and you just feel them with you. The Kansas City Fed takes in all or part of seven states and Route 66 runs through four of those seven states. So it's a big part of our community at the Kansas City Fed. And we were noticing prior to the centennial a couple of years ago that there was so much activity going on along Route 66 in Oklahoma. We realized that this could be a great jumping off point for a study of byways in general. The Byways Report is an introduction to how small towns and rural areas can use byways as rural economic development. Our work in community development focuses on lower or low and moderate income communities, including small towns and rural areas. So we're always looking for what is information that we can provide to these communities that will help them build prosperity. My dad was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood in the late 50s. I was born in a hospital on Route 66 in 1959. I used to love to hop on my bike and ride the old alignments, visit little tiny towns like Pond and Grover, and learn about what Route 66 was, what it meant to the country. So it was so exciting to have a chance, particularly during this centennial, to be even the smallest part of helping to keep that important historic byway healthy and growing by telling its stories. The people who build and maintain the things that make Route 66 special are themselves heroes. You think about the folks, the volunteers that fixed up the historic Coleman Theater in Miami, or that restored the Blue Whale of Catoosa, or rebuilt the Round Barn in Arcadia. We talk about byways as being connections between places that matter to people. I would say that the people themselves are really what makes a byway special.",
"description": "For description how about: Kansas City Fed Community Engagement Advisor Jennifer Wilding authored The Byways Report in early 2026. In this video, she discusses the economic vitality of Route 66 and how Americans’ ongoing love of the open road can help small towns build prosperity through route-based tourism.",
