"transcript": "Well, Farm Journal's Dairy Editorial Lead is sitting down with the outgoing leader of Dairy Management Incorporated. Karen Bohnert goes in depth with us on her conversation with Barbara O'Brien. She shares what the future holds and the accomplishments of the past. Under Barbara O'Brien's leadership, DMI has really transformed from a direct-to-consumer relationship model into a business-to-business partnership powerhouse. Uh, she built embedded relationships with giants like Domino's, Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and Taco Bell, leveraging relationships, um, and scale and marketing investment to drive dairy demand. DMI science work operates on three levels. First, validating what dairy already does well, reinforcing existing nutrition claims. Second, they're discovering what's next, uncovering previous unrealized components and compounds in milk with enormous potential. And finally, they're commercializing that science, working with companies to turn that research that they're doing into actual products that consumers can buy. Um, O'Brien calls it difference-making work, if you will, that nobody else will fund, but DMI has laid out a 10-year research pipeline, and their job is ensuring that science gets shared, adopted, and really brought to market through these partnerships. She's created a four-tier accountability system to prove ROI to farmers who fund the check-off. And she's helped position check-off to support the component revolution that we've seen and export growth that we've come to count on that's taken US dairy farms, uh, from 2% exports in 1995 to 17% today. Well, Corey Scott, who has been appointed by the DMI board as the new CEO for DMI, says she keeps feeling like that they need to build on this strong foundation. But dairy farmers are moving fast, she's acknowledged that, and check-off has had to help keep that keep up with that pace. She wants DMI to be at the bleeding edge, looking into dark corners for innovation the industry doesn't even realize it needs yet. Um, Scott sees farmers as entrepreneurs, constantly pushing for what's next, and she expects check-off to really match that level of energy. Her focus is keep demand ahead of efficiency, expand those global markets, and make sure dairy stays relevant with the consumers who get information differently, if you will, than they did generations ago. Karen's full story on her conversation with Barbara O'Brien publishes on Tuesday. You can find it on dairyherd.com.",
