"summary": "The natural gas market is showing bullish signs with the November contract trading above key moving averages and the RSI in positive territory. While the latest EIA storage report was slightly above consensus, overall storage levels are still below last year's and near the five-year average, particularly in the South Central region. Cooler weather forecasts for the US and Europe, combined with lagging production and strong Asian LNG prices, suggest potential for further upside, possibly leading to a short squeeze.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Friday, October the 9th, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And for the spot November natural gas contract, we're up. We're currently trading at 3.20 and three ticks. Right now, up over 3% here, almost 1.1%. And as you can see, we're holding above the 13-period exponential moving average, and the averages have crossed to the upside. The RSI still remains in positive territory, so the marketplace is still trying to kick higher. Let's take a look at the hourly chart. Oh, I should say something else here. Let's drop this particular chart right down to the hourly chart. Don't forget, you can just use different time frames for your trading signals. And as you can see, just taking the 13 and 48-period exponential moving averages, gives you nice crossover signals if you like them on an hourly basis. So, let's turn to the hourly chart with the pivot system, and we are above the daily pivot, which came in today at 3.19 and one tick. Right now, we are looking to see if we can test back up toward 3.27 and a half. That's where we were yesterday before the EIA storage report kind of pulled the wind out of the sails. The RSI is pointing to the upside. Let's take a look at the EIA report, and it came in at plus 85. Consensus was around plus 82 Bcf. Last year was plus 77, but the five-year average was plus 96. And as you can see, we're at 3.5 TCF right now, with about three, well, almost four weeks to go left here in the injection season. So, we've got some pretty good injections coming up here with the milder temperatures, but we're approaching the end of the injection season here, November the 1st. And as you can see, right now, the South Central is still below both the last year number and the five-year average number. So, that's the most flexible storage that we have is Salt Dome, and that's running at 227 Bcf, last year 295, five-year average 264. Again, that's the most flexible gas storage we have. We've got to see some better injections into the salts. Let's take a look at the January contract. And as you can see right now, we are currently up here. We're currently up 5.1 cents here to 3.96. We've been in this down channel, but as you can see, lately, we didn't make a new low on the RSI, even as we tested the lower bound of this channel, which means that perhaps this crowded short natural gas market trade is about to have its bubble burst here. Why? Cooler weather starting to move in, LNG is starting to pick up, and production still lagging. Let's take a look at the weather here. This 6 to 10-day outlook is below normal up all the way up in New England here, near normal in the Mid-Atlantic states like New Jersey, New York. And as you can see over here, below normal temperatures in the Desert Southwest. We'll pick that up in just a second because there's some hurricanes that are going to affect this. Let's take a look at the 8 to 14-day temperature outlook, and there's below normal temperatures in the Big Bend of Texas. Unbelievable. But you could see, warmer weather is still holding in the Desert Southwest through the Central Valley of California, and over into Florida. Let's take a look at the weather here, and this is the weather forecast going out. As you can see, we still have some warm temperatures here in Texas right now for the next few days. And look at this cooler weather coming in from Canada, out in the Pacific Northwest, and also over up into New England. So, the heat is getting squashed into the lower Southeast quadrant, where we've got a hurricane. And right now, as you can see, there's some cold temperatures coming in from Calgary, down to 30 degrees up there in Calgary, 38 in Denver. So, this cool air coming across the Rockies here is dropping down into the US. And as you can see, that warm temperature is starting to get shoved out to sea. This continues to go through the forecast period here. Now looking in the 30s up here in South Dakota, and down in Denver, 35 degrees. This expands a little bit here into the Great Lakes region. As we get into the 18th of October, you're looking at 38 degrees in Milwaukee, 34 in Lambeau Field, right there at Green Bay. And as you can see, some cooler temperatures are starting to creep in along Appalachia here, and into New England. So, as we get really all the way at the end of this forecast here, we start to see cooler temperatures again, start to push in both from the West and from the East here, into New England, and across across down into the Rockies. Let's take a look at Europe, and Europe is a little cool here for France right now, warmer temperatures to the East. That will be the theme as we go through this forecast period here. Warmer temperatures back and forth, but overall, the warmth is stuck out into Russia here, Ukraine, and then you're starting to see cooler weather coming in off the North Atlantic here, but also see some cooler temperatures here in Greece, Turkey. As you can see in the forecast, there's that cool weather coming in from the North Atlantic here, into the UK, Ireland, into France as well. Look at this warmth building back up in here into Russia. Let's take a look at the EU storage. It's 73.1% full. That's good news here. We've only got a few weeks left here to inject. They need all the gas they can get, especially for some of these countries. And let's take a closer look here. Again, Germany 59%. It's got to improve. It hasn't budged. And as you can see, Belgium 64%, Latvia 49%, Slovakia is 56%, the Netherlands 61%. And as you can see, the UK here is showing 34%, but that's not quite correct. Let's take a look here at the JKM contract for January. Again, this may be part of the reason why the winter is starting to pull up in the US. Here is the JKM for January in Yen. Of course, here it looks like it's going to test its recent high here, all the way up at 4375 Yen. And it's, as you can see, this is pushing up with the RSI in positive territory. Let's take a look at the weather out in the Asia. As you can see, there are some hurricanes out here. We are starting to see both Nolo here and Kugama. I'm hoping I'm pronouncing that correctly here. We can start seeing almost no precipitation in India and Southeast Asia. Southeast India really needs the rain here. As you can see, it's mostly clear out in Asia. Let's take a look at the temperature map. Tokyo 64 degrees, Beijing 66, New Delhi at 80 degrees. As you can see for the hurricanes and typhoons, though, there are two out here in the Pacific. Nolo, that's right. Nolo from the Hawaii is out trying to test the Japanese waters here. And Kugama, hopefully I'm pronouncing that right, is following in its tracks and will be pushing out to the Northeast. But here's Rachel. And I didn't realize this, but there's Rachel. She's going to make an exit stage right and head toward St. George, Utah. And then right below here is Simon. And Simon himself is also heading in that general direction, going up through Chihuahua here. As you can see, it's near Guadalajara. It is a major hurricane right now. Stay uh, Category 2, but moving up to Category 4. That's going to impact the Southeast US. And there is our hurricane Isaias. Isaias, I can't pronounce that. Anyway, it's the uh, Spanish equivalent of Isaiah, and it is pushing up toward Tuscaloosa, right for the for the football game tomorrow at 6:30. It's going to be around Tuscaloosa around 1 PM. So, it's going to be a wet and soggy football field if they still hold it in Tuscaloosa. But as you can see right now, this is heading in that general direction. Number two Alabama versus number six Georgia, or I may have gotten that backward. Let's take a look at the weather forecast here for Asia. And it is a mixed bag, cooler temperatures right now in Eastern China here, in Japan, but warmer temperatures in Beijing here. This continues for the next few days, but cooler temperatures are coming back in through Mongolia, pushing some of that warmth back out. And as you can see, right toward the end of the forecast, it is fairly normal. Let's take a look at the LNG over here at Ras Laffan. Nothing's loading at Ras Laffan at this time. As you can see right here, there's a few tankers sitting off the coast. There is a shuttle LNG uh tanker moving up toward Kuwait. Again, Kuwait needs natural gas. They're long oil, short gas. And as you can see right here, very little is going through the Strait of Hormuz right now with their transponders on, but we've been told there's more and more traffic. Let's take a look at the traffic incidents here because these are attacks potentially happening in and around the Persian Gulf. And this is the UK um Marine Operation um Marine Transportation Operation Center, excuse me. And they'll show any attacks that they've reported here over the last few days, all the way back up into the Red Sea here, as well as the Strait of Hormuz. Let's take a look at the US LNG, and there's Cameron 1.418. It's come down a bit here. That is dropped off. It was 1.5 just the other day. Now it's down to 1.418. Freeport still seven days now. It's still choppy, trying to come back online. There is obviously some maintenance with at least one train. How about Calcas, excuse me, Creole Trail, which feeds Sabine Pass, 1.47. That's come down a little bit as well. And here is Corpus Christi, up to 2.66. That's great news out of 2.75. Here is Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass, 1.7. So, a slight improvement there. And over here is Plaquemines, running 3.99, two almost right now. That's good news there, almost 4 Bcf. And here's some more good news. Golden Pass, 583,625. Let's see if it holds over the weekend. And let's take a look at our hurricane here. It is pushing up into uh Mobile Bay, Pensacola, Florida appears to be in the bullseye today. And let's take a look here. It is a strong, strong storm here, 120 miles an hour uh wind speed here. Millibars down to 959. It is moving north, northeast at 15 miles an hour. Here is the track, basically. It is a major hurricane right now. As it comes on shore, it will still be a hurricane. It will get up to Tuscaloosa by 1 PM Saturday. The game starts at 6:30 at this time. And here is the tracks for the spaghetti plots. It is still tracking very strongly here, up through Alabama here, toward Mississippi a little bit, possibly getting into Tennessee and Kentucky, then pushing over to the East around Virginia here, possibly as high as New Jersey, Southern New Jersey, before it goes right back out to sea. And let's take a look at Pensacola. Here we go. We've got the webcam here from the beach at Pensacola. And as you can see, winds are starting to really pick up. There is rain falling here quite heavily. There are only a few people on the beach here. And of course, we've got the police and surf rescue out there making sure no one gets swept out to sea. Let's take a look at the drought monitor here. We still have a major drought. Don't forget that. We could use the storms. There will be some rain obviously moving into uh Utah and Arizona from Rachel and Simon. That's great news if it can reach up into Utah and Colorado. We love it there. There is still some drought here in Alabama, all the way up into Tennessee. So, we could also use the rain from our hurricane. And here's our nuclear outages. We're at 15 gigawatts today. It compares to last year's 18.2 gigawatts, still within the five-year range. And as you can see, this the reactors are going down for maintenance and refueling. We continue this for the next three weeks at least. How about the teleconnections here? Yeah, the current current teleconnections right now. The AO has fallen off here. The that's the Arctic Oscillation. The um NAO here has started to push actually back up a little bit, but the PNA, the Pacific North American is starting to push lower right now. Now, normally, negative PNA is associated with La Niña. We'll see if this holds, but of course, this is Super El Niño. Anything can happen. And let's take a look at the Arctic here because we are in a winter contract. We're trading November, and there is cooler weather pushing into obviously Greenland here, into Siberia, and into Alaska and up parts of Canada here. Watch out because we are going to be watching the ice building up here in the Arctic because that's important to see about cooler weather pushing from Canada down into the United States. We've got a little bit of ice forming in the Southern part of Hudson Bay. That's good news for the winter, folks here. We've got some ice obviously forming outside in the Bering Straits here, but we are still light according to the 30-year average here on the Eastern side, up near Russia. And let's take a look at the stocks. This is the one-week performance for stocks in the oil and gas EMP sector. Stocks between two and 10 billion dollars have a high short float, over 10%. And as you can see, it's a sea of green except for Crescent, down 1.9%. Behind me, Matador, up 2.77%. And as you can see right now, we are still pushing out here. Let's bring it out to the daily chart. We are positive here. We're trading at 3.20 and six ticks, up 3.8 cents. We're a little bit over 1.14% at this time.
