The speaker suggests that while a further pullback might be expected, gold is technically oversold on various timeframes, and Middle East tensions are bolstering its safe-haven appeal. Potential weakness in the dollar index could further support gold, creating near-term upside opportunities for traders, though it's unlikely to reach new record highs soon and may trade sideways for a couple of years.",

"transcript": "Now it's not been the best year for gold, but that also doesn't mean it's a bad one. It's effectively flat. After the 30-year rally in January and peaking out, it's yet to retest those highs. And traders are now getting accustomed to prices going down. And with those sorts of environments, people tend to extrapolate the current into the future and gold is written off. But then we saw a similar pattern in previous years where all gold seemed to do was rise, and that resulted in some pretty extreme forecasts. But there's a huge middle ground between up and down. And I'm here to argue that actually, gold might not be falling back that far, and it doesn't necessarily have to break to new highs. Or put simply, it's more of a trader's environment than an investor's one. And that's not necessarily a bad thing if you're a trader. So we're looking at the gold on the one-year candlestick chart. Mostly to highlight that we're flat for the year and on track for a shooting star reversal. But also that the previous three years saw increasingly bullish volatility. So from that perspective, maybe we should expect a bit of a pullback as we get into next year. But that doesn't mean there has to be all doom and gloom. Now look at the monthly chart, we saw this 30% rally, most of it was a spike, and then prices have been correcting lower. But 4,000 has been a solid level and prices are trying to rise above it. And I do like that we're trying to hold above this bullish candle and that the RSI was extremely oversold at that swing low. Clicking to the weekly chart shows a pretty decent pullback relative to this rally. But again, it really highlights how important 4,000 was back between June and July. Prices accelerate out of that congestion zone, now we're trying to hold above 4200. Also notice last week had an extremely oversold RSI 2 setting. And if we look at the daily chart, bullish divergence has formed on the RSI 2, and the RSI 14 is starting to curl higher. So what's partly helping here is that we've got Middle East headlines erupting again as we're heading into the weekend, and I think that's helping gold regain some of its safe haven status. And that still leads potential for a bit of a pullback on the daily timeframe as we get into next week. But again, even if we were to break beneath this low and this high volume node, 4,000 to me looks like a solid level. And gold is one of those markets where investors love to jump in when they can, and this seems like a pretty likely level to me. That also doesn't mean it's going to be easy for bulls. We've got a monthly pivot point just below 4300. We've also got these swing lows at at 4272. But if we can get some bullish momentum on the go here, I think the buy the dip mentality could resurface. And if heavens forbid the US dollar started to pull back, then by all means maybe we're looking at a move up to 4400, even 4500. Looking at the dollar index, it just so happens that it is trading at the top of a trend channel, near its May high with a 50% retracement level just above. So there's a few areas of resistance here for the dollar after a three-week rally. So even if the market moves sideways from here, that still allows gold the opportunity to lift itself off of its lows. Now price action isn't exactly bearish on the daily timeframe, but we can see there's a change in sentiment around these levels where it's failed to retest Monday's high. We've also got the monthly pivot point around these levels and a few upper wicks. So there's certainly a change in characteristics compared to the rally of the goddess here. And if we can pull back, that should help gold over the near term. Average and median returns have been effectively flat. It's also had a negative win rate, only rising 43.9% of the time. It tends to pick up in November with a positive average return of 1%, although again, median is only 0.2%. So things do tend to pick up in December, probably due to a weaker US dollar seasonality. Average returns are 0.7% and median are 1.4%. Now wrapping up on sentiment, traders remain net long on the CME futures exchange. Yes, net long exposure has been gradually lower in recent weeks, but there's a pretty healthy amount of net longs overall. And there's been a very gradual pickup of short, but not enough to justify the pullback in gold we've seen in recent weeks. Looking at option sentiment or risk reversals, yes, there has been an increase in puts relative to calls. But again, if you compare the absolute level of risk reversals compared to their lows back in June, price action has been far more bearish than options positioning, and to me that's a slightly bullish clue. So overall, I think traders are a little bit too bearish on gold at the moment. There's some upside potential over the near term, but I don't think it's going to be storming its way to a new record high anytime soon. And given we had three particularly bullish years heading into those highs, who's to say we can't go sideways for the next couple. And that doesn't necessarily matter because we have some pretty decent ranges in there. It's just a nightmare for trend traders, but a gift for swing traders. As always, if that was useful, wish you best of luck with your trading.",
