"summary": "The natural gas market is showing mixed signals. While the November futures contract is up, storage expectations are high, which is bearish compared to last year but bullish against the five-year average. Several factors, including pipeline maintenance, bullish LNG news, and low wind generation in ERCOT, are supporting prices. However, a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico is a demand killer, and European gas storage remains below target. Weather forecasts indicate cooler temperatures arriving in parts of the US, Europe, and Asia, potentially increasing demand, but teleconnections suggest a complex winter ahead.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Thursday, October the 8th, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And for the spot November contract, it's currently up. We're currently trading at 3.22 and a half, up 2.2 cents here. We're over 0.66%. And as you can see right now, we gapped up this overnight here, but the RSI is still holding in the positive. It is storage day. Expectations around plus 82 BCF. They've been moved up from about 76 BCF. So, it is going to be considered bearish versus last year's plus 77, but bullish versus the five-year average of plus 96. And we've got our first hurricane of the season. It might be the only one, but we've got that plus some pipeline maintenance, and we've got some bullish LNG news with Cove Point coming back online. Let's take a look here at the hourly chart. As you can see, the 13 and 48 period exponential moving averages have crossed back to the upside. Yes, we've got a choppy bottom here. And as you can see, the RSI is open to the upside, but kind of trending a little bit flat. So, let's take a look at the hourly chart right now. And as you can see, we are above the daily pivot, which came in today at 3.1880. We're hanging around first resistance here at 3.2670. We are looking negative right now, as we can see with the RSI. It is open to the downside. So, it looks like storage may be a bit of a dampener here. Again, the hurricane is typically a demand killer, not not a supply killer here. So, it really is kind of strange that we're moving this far up, but this storm is going to take a look at Tuscaloosa, where the Alabama-Georgia game is scheduled to play Saturday at 6:30 PM. The storm is coming earlier. It's going to be a wet and soggy game if it holds. Let's take a look at something that is positive. And this is Texas Eastern Pipeline. This is off their informational postings here. And as you can see, their problem here on the pipeline is expected to last into the first week of November. That's right. It's extended here. They're going to give an update on October the 23rd, but this is some of the pipeline maintenance, which is affecting about 5 BCF a day of production out there. Yes, prices are very, very low in Appalachia. We've got some colder weather coming in. Let's take a look at the down channel here. This is the January contract. And as you can see, we're up today, up 2.8, uh, 2.9 cents right now, to 3.20, uh, 3.9270, excuse me. RSI is pointing to the upside. So, we're still bouncing within this channel, but watch if we come back down one more time. If we can't get through about 50% of this channel and start to turn to the upside, watch out because this is a crowded short market. Let's take a look here at the current conditions in ERCOT. Right now, system-wide demand is expected to be just under 73,000 megawatts today. Renewables are supposed to peak out, or actually, they're peaking out just about now here at 34,000. And as you can see, wind is quite low. Right now, expected to be around 2700 megawatts. It's quite low for this time of year. It is fall, but, you know, we should start picking up in wind. Right now, it actually shows 1936 megawatts. Natural gas, as a result, is holding pretty steadily here, just over 20, uh, just under 24,000 megawatts for the fuel mix here. That will be in natural gas's favor later on this afternoon as the demand picks up, but the wind is expected still to remain fairly light. And we've got volatility across the power markets yesterday and again today. Look at PJM this morning, popping here over $500, $536 here. We see, uh, NYISO, New York ISO here over $1000 this morning. MISO here popping up to $211 here. So, we are expected to get up to about $152 in ERCOT. As you can see, it is fall. We've got some plants that are down. We've got some pipelines that are down. Things are getting quite choppy out there in the power market. But, as a result, that favors natural gas. Let's take a look here at the weather forecast right now. And as you can see, we've still got some heat in the desert southwest, Arizona all the way over to California. But take a look at the cooler weather coming into the Pacific Northwest here, all the way down from Calgary straight down into Denver. As you can see here, Calgary 39, Denver 53. As we push forward, look at the cooler temperatures up here in New England, the Mid-Atlantic states. It is starting to cool down around the Great Lake states as well. So, the heat is being compacted into the Southeast. As you can see, it pushes it further and further toward the Carolinas. As that cold weather descends into Montana and Colorado here. Look at the weather coming into the Great Lakes. There it is. On the 18th of October. The heat is is really just now Louisiana back up toward Delaware here. And as you can see, pushing forward, it really it ends, right? Summer exits here. There's just a little bit of warmth left left in the desert southwest, a little bit in the Central Valley of California, and a little bit to the Southeast here. As we get to the end of the forecast map. Look at that cooler temperatures descending into the second, or excuse me, the western half of the United States here, really from the Dakotas down to Colorado, even into New Mexico. Let's take a look at the 6 to 10-day temperature outlook. Sorry, I'm tripping all over my tongue today. Below normal temperatures up in New England, above across the, uh, Southeast. As you can see, and the 8 to 14-day temperature outlook, looking like that heat is now pushed all the way from Louisiana back over to Florida. Below normal temperatures are still holding into New England. Everywhere else in the Mid-Atlantic is around near normal. Let's take a look here at Europe. 73% full. Injections have come off the last few days though, but it is still tracking on about 76% full, 77 if they're lucky here. They were aiming for 80% full. They had pulled it down from 90% down to 80%. We're going to be short as well. We've still got some problems here across the EU. Of course, right now, we're pulling up that for a second here. It's loading. And here we go. There's our problems, right? The United Kingdom is below Ukraine, where there's a war. Latvia at 49% here. Netherlands 61, Belgium 64. Germany is the big dog. They're the largest consumer of natural gas in the EU, 59%. So, that means Germany and the UK are going to be battling it out for spot LNG cargoes this winter, most likely from the United States. And let's take a look here as we go into WX Charts here, if it loads up here this morning. There we go. We are getting some warmer temperatures right now in France here. It continues to be warm in Europe here, other than the UK and Ireland. There's some cooler weather that comes in on the 9th here. That pushes further to the East. And as you can see, we start getting some cooler temperatures in Eastern Europe here as we get through the forecast. It's a little slow to load up this morning. There we go. We're starting to see cooler temperatures out in the Balkans and Romania here, uh, Moldova, Moldova, out there and around the 16th here. You can see pushing all the way to the end of the forecast map here. Cooler temperatures from Turkey all the way back up toward Ukraine and Poland by the end of this forecast here on October the 22nd. And let me switch back over to the other side. Let's take a look at the UK pricing. This is in pence per therm here. And as you can see right now, we're up today. Um, excuse me, I'll take that off there. We are up right now over 0.68% right now. We're 1.1, uh, 1.31 pence per therm, up to 194.93. The RSI is trying to turn to the upside. So, we'll be expecting a test of the recent high up here. That would be up it's over 200, uh, 210 pence per therm. So, keep a careful eye on it with the straight up war moves. Still in active war zone here. We're still looking for stronger prices going into winter. Let's take a look at Asia here. Boy, everything's just not working out this morning. Here we go. Loading up again for Asia. There's some cooler weather through Japan right now. Warmer temperatures around Beijing, all the way down to Shanghai. There's there's going to be some cooler weather that comes in through Mongolia here around the 11th. That pushes that warmer temperature further to the East here. And then you get some much cooler temperatures starting to arrive around October the 15th, pushing into Beijing. There's the really cool, cool temperatures here. Northern China industrial zone here, into North Korea. Obviously, not much demand there, but that will keep things cool in the Koreas and parts of Japan. So, maybe a taste of winter is coming. There it is. Some more cooler weather coming in around the 21st. Let's take a look at Asia on the weather. As you can see, there's really not much coming into Southeastern India. They could really use the rain there. But take a look at the active storm systems across the Pacific. There's one storm system here pushing up toward Japan to the East. You got another one to take a look at. One more. There's a possibility for this one as well. And then you've got the remnants of Rachel over here. You've got Simon off Acapulco. And you've got our storm system in the Gulf here. Isaias, I can't even pronounce it, forget it. Anyway, that is heading up toward Mobile, Pascagoula. And so, we'll take a look here at the temperatures in Asia right now. They are fairly cool right now. We're looking at Tokyo, 64 degrees. Beijing 66. New Delhi 84 degrees. How about the US LNG? There is still that one LNG tanker loading up at Golden Pass. There are a few loading up though over at Cheniere. So, that's good news there. There's still plenty going on. Cameron LNG up to 1.506 out of 1.56. Great news there. Freeport though, it is choppy for the last, well, six days right now. And that means they're trying to get this thing back online, but it fails in the later hours here. As you can see from the graphs, timely in, uh, nominations all the way up close to 1.8 BCF, but then it falls down closer to 1 BCF. So, still some maintenance going on right now. How about Creole Trail? This is one of the pipelines that feeds Sabine Pass. And as you can see, we're right now, we're looking at just under 1.48 out of 1.7. That's fairly steady. Corpus Christi, moving up here, 2.611 out of 2.75. So, ramping up here at Corpus Christi. Here is Venture Global Calcasieu Pass, 1.7. That's good news there. And here is Creole, excuse me, Plaquemines here, 3.939, usually about 4 BCF. Up and down, but it's close. We'll keep it. And here's Golden Pass, almost 500,000 MMBtu. That's great news. We'd like to see more of that in the next few weeks. How about the storm system in the Gulf? There she is. It's moving up here. It is going to target up here toward, uh, Mobile, Pascagoula area. We'll see if it affects much in the way of production in the Gulf of Mexico. Possibly about 400,000, 450,000. That's about it on the East side of the Gulf. And there it is. There's that storm system. It is expected to be a hurricane, or it should be a hurricane right now, actually. And there's the track. It is expected to move up here and come on shore possibly as a very strong hurricane, possibly Cat 1, Cat 2 here as it comes on shore and then comes down into a a tropical storm. And there is the greater picture. As you can see, it is swirling up here. There's Simon across the way here on the West side of Mexico. There is some storm activity coming off Africa, but it's disorganized. And there is that remnants of that storm that came across the Windward Islands, was, uh, south of Puerto Rico. Now it is pushing out toward Dominican Republic here, Haiti, and Jamaica. It is combining with some moisture coming off of Panama. So, we'll keep a careful eye on that. It probably gets pulled up into this storm system for the hurricane in the Gulf. Let's take a look at their global hazards. Still the West side of Mexico as we get through the end of the month. And here is the spaghetti plot of the tracks for the hurricane. As you can see, it is heading up right up toward the Georgia-Alabama game for Saturday. And there is a little bit of Saharan air layer, not much though. It's mainly contained to the, uh, continent, but there is some small amount of dust coming off the continent. How about the, uh, US nuclear fleet? Well, it hasn't updated yet today. Unfortunately, it was, um, about 1. uh, yeah, yeah, still not updated today. Sorry. It was last year 17.8 gigawatts. We're a little bit less than that for this year. As you know, these, uh, nuclear units are coming down for maintenance and refueling ahead of winter. We do peak out this month, typically, no later than the first week of November, and then come back online. Let's take a look at the, uh, El Nino. As you can see, there's the warmer temperatures all the way back to the International Dateline. Here's Hawaii. Those cooler water temperatures, we're keeping a careful eye on it. As you can see, more of it now forming south of Baja. And of course, all the way up here in the North Atlantic, there's a pool of cool water as well between the UK and Iceland. So, we'll keep a careful eye on how things are going to shape up because, look at the AO. It came off. That's right. The Arctic Oscillation dropped out overnight here. The NAO also dropped out as well. And the PNA went negative. So, these teleconnections are moving quite rapidly here. We'll keep a careful eye on it here because if this PNA goes negative, that's normally associated with La Nina, not El Nino. So, El Nino may be full of surprises this winter. Let's take a look at, uh, Panama here. It is running right now, 85.2 feet here for Lake Gatun. And that's good news because normally it should be running at 85.5 feet. They've been worried about El Nino causing drought conditions here, and that might affect shipments through the Panama Canal. But right now, no such fear. Let's take a look at the stocks in the oil and gas E&P sector. Stocks between $2 and $10 billion have a high short float, over 10%. And it's a mixed bag here. Matador behind me, up 2.19%. Landbridge up 1.46%. Oh, you can see right now, even Crescent Energy down 5%. Interesting news there. So, recapping again for the spot November contract. We're currently trading at 3.222. Right now, up 2.1 cents now to 3.224. So, moving around a little bit here, under, uh, just up above about half a percent here. We are waiting storage today. Expectations around plus 80 to plus 82 BCF. Bearish versus last year, bullish versus the five-year average. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
