"transcript": "Sterling US Dollar has extended losses, tipping below the 132 level after the Fed minutes signals to further rate hikes this year. Now, the minutes showed that from the September meeting that uh Federal Reserve officials were unanimous in their support for the 25 basis point rate hike. That was the first rate hike since 2023. And the majority of um policymakers also said that they saw a further rate hike before the end of the year. Now, the expectations surrounding rate hikes for the Federal Reserve still sit at around 20% for an October move. So the market isn't looking at a move um this month. However, expectations do remain elevated at around 80% uh for a rate hike of 25 basis points before the end of the year. Now, we've got the US dollar trading at around an 18-month high. Obviously supported by those slightly hawkish minutes, as well as the fact that we've got oil prices continuing to rise. Now, that's basically on um reports that the US is considering uh further military action in Iran ahead of the mid-term election. So that's pushing oil prices higher again, adding to those inflationary concerns. We've got Treasury yields continuing to climb. So the 10-year yield um is around 10.33%, the highest level since 2002. The 30-year yield is up at around 5.75%, so that's also a 24-year high. Interestingly, as far as the um bond market is or the Treasury market is concerned, as we said, we're sort of seeing them push higher because of those elevated oil prices, um concerns over the uh fiscal position in the UK with accelerating debt, um and obviously, as we mentioned, the economic um resilience that we have seen in the US economy. But also, it's an increasingly competitive market, the bond market. So there have also been reports from Wall Street Journal that Broadcom is lining up 50 billion dollars of financing um in order to buy gear from OpenAI and Oracle is also looking um for an unspecified sum. So the point here being that we are seeing these huge AI companies or chip companies um coming to the market, to the Treasury market, to the um borrowing market in direct competition with sovereign bonds. Um so, as I said, we've got these rising um yields lifting the US dollar. Um we've got the attention will be on jobless claims later today for further input as to the health of the US um labor market. But broadly speaking, the outlook for the US dollar remains very supportive. On the other hand, we've got Sterling, which is actually under pressure. Now, it is finding a little bit of support um from increased expectations that the Bank of England will be actually hiking interest rates in the November meeting. So we're looking at around a 70% probability of a rate hike by 25 basis points. Let's not forget that Andrew Bailey did warn that rising energy prices would mean that it would be difficult not to hike rates. We've also had Catherine Mann, uh BoE policymaker, um speak this week and she signaled to around 100 basis points worth of hikes over the coming year, which is more or less what the market is pricing in. I do think that's quite um excessive in the amount of rate hikes that could be priced in given the macro backdrop for the UK and the weakening of the labor market, which would could make um 100 basis points worth of hike challenging. Um as far as the technical picture is concerned for Sterling US Dollar, it's looking pretty weak. So we've seen Sterling US Dollar fall sharply from that 13675 August peak, down to, as I said, just below 132 at the time of recording. Now, it trades below its 50 and its 200 EMA. We've seen the 50 EMA cross below the 200 EMA in a death cross signal. Um and so what sellers are going to be looking to is to break below that 132 level. We've got momentum on their side with the RSI also below 50. A break below 132 and 13150, that opens the door to the 131 round number before attention will turn to 130, that key psychological level. Any recovery would need to retake 13275. That was a price that we saw um the GBP USD rejected at yesterday. And above here, 13340 horizontal resistance comes into focus ahead of the 200 EMA at 134.
