"transcript": "US equity futures are holding steady on Wednesday after the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 hit record closing highs overnight. Investors are now turning their attention to the FOMC minutes and the start of Q3 earnings, which kick off in earnest next week. Now what we've seen here is very much an AI-related tech stock drive. I mean, the Nasdaq 100 rose to its record high on Friday and has risen, as I said, to another record high. Um, yesterday, S&P 500 also being pushed higher thanks to gains in tech sector. And this is very much a rally that we've seen in semiconductors, um, which have been gaining sort of um strength on optimism over chips used for AI infrastructure. Nvidia also very much in focus as it closes in on that key $6 trillion market cap valuation. Now, as I said, this is very much sort of optimism as we head into earnings season. There are a couple of other factors which have helped support stocks. Obviously, factors such as the um markets waning expectations surrounding a Fed rate hike in October. That's now just down to 20% from around 70% um, just over 10 days ago. However, we are still seeing um that Treasury yields are in focus and they're still elevated. Now, we did see a slight pullback in Treasury yields yesterday and that as well sort of helped a recovery in US equity. Um, but the 10-year Treasury is actually pushing higher again today at 5.31%, which could dampen um demand for risky assets. But I think what's really interesting here is how we're seeing this being played out in the comparisons between the Nasdaq, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones. So, whilst the Nasdaq and the S&P 500, which are more tech-heavy than the Dow Jones, are trading around those record levels, the Dow Jones is actually looking relatively depressed, um, trading in a descending channel. But we'll have a look at the charts shortly. Just before we do that, our attention is very much on the minutes for the FOMC um meeting, the September meeting, which will be released later today. Um, and this is the meeting where the Federal Reserve hiked rates by 25 basis points. Now, what the market's going to be looking for in these meeting minutes is basically to see how supported that decision was. Any sense that there was division among the Fed policymakers, then that would mean that the bar for hiking rates again in December, for example, um, would be significantly higher. Now, I talk about December because as I mentioned, the um rate hike expectations for October have come back significantly following weaker data last week. Um, but as far as December is concerned, the market's still pricing in over an 85% probability that the Fed will hike rates again um before the end of the year. Now, the other point that we're going to be looking for in those meeting minutes will be um what policymakers are saying with regards to elevated Treasury yields. So, we talked about that 10-year Treasury being at sort of, you know, 5.31%, highest level around its highest level since 2002. Um, and if there is a sense among policymakers that actually those elevated Treasury yields are doing some of the heavy lifting for the Fed, then that could actually mean that the likelihood of a December rate hike does come back slightly, ease slightly, which could potentially be beneficial for um US equities. Now, as I mentioned, this distinction between um the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones. If we just have a look at the chart for the Dow Jones, we can see it's trading in a downwards channel. We did see a slight bounce yesterday, but it faced rejection again at that 51,500 level. Um, and the path of least resistance does remain to the downside. Now, that's in stark contrast to the charts for the S&P 500, which we see the price broke out of a symmetrical triangle pattern, reaching to a fresh record high of 7840. It has eased back slightly today below that 78,000, sorry, 7800 level. Um, but the RSI is still above 50, suggesting momentum is still to the upside. Now, buyers will be looking for a break above that 7840 level, looking towards 7900 and obviously the 8000 psychological levels will be the targets to the upside. And with earnings season coming up, that could be key. Also, we've got next week the um US inflation data. So if we do get a cooler inflation print there, that as well could help propel stocks higher. Just on the downside, as far as support is concerned, looking at 7700, um, as the the round number as the level of support. Below that, attention will turn to 7620, um, on the downside.
