"summary": "Natural gas prices are currently down due to the return of production from an outage and fall-like temperatures. However, colder temperatures are expected in the northern US and parts of Europe in the coming weeks, which could increase demand. European gas storage levels are still below targets in some key countries, and the UK is not injecting much into storage. The speaker highlights the \"short winter trade\" as crowded and notes the potential impact of a fading El Nino on winter weather patterns in the US.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Tuesday, September 29th, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And for the new spot November natural gas contract, we're down. We're currently training at 30430, down 6.3 cents or over 2%. Now, as you can see, the RSI has turned to the downside here. We are now below the 13 and 48 period exponential moving averages. So we got the crossover with that sudden loss of production from MXP line 100 outage, but it came back on Sunday night, and therefore the market has readjusted. It's readjusted for fall-like temperatures, but we also are getting a little bit of improvement on LNG. So, we'll look to see if this stabilizes here just north of $3.00 here. Yesterday, October went off the board exactly at the $3.00 mark. Let's turn to the hourly chart, and as you can see right now, we're well below the daily pivot, which came in at 31220 here. We are through first support at 3065, and we're testing down to second support at 30230. The RSI is quite low, but it has yet to turn to the upside. Let's turn to the grid here in ERCOT. We are lower for demand today, 81,500 here. Renewable renewables, though, are picking up a little bit. They're going to be almost uh, well, they're going to be 39,000 uh, peak here today. As you can see, wind is picking back up. Right now, solar is coming off. So natural gas is picking up the bulk of the market share. It is over wind and solar right now at just under 27,000 megawatts or just under 45% of the fuel mix. That will continue. Again, we're losing daylight time as we continue to shift into fall here toward winter. That means we get less and less solar, but wind should start picking up. And let's take a look at the national grid because we have seen some volatility yesterday and again this morning here for PJM popping here. Uh, right now, over, let's see, where is it? Come on. It's going to pop here in a second. Ah, it's so it went over almost 500, almost $600 this morning. I'm sorry, I can't get it quite to pin there. But as you can see, there's been some volatility up in Ontario here. But yesterday, things were really popping all over the place. SPP and MISO here. MISO, watch out. Yesterday was popping as well, and it's expected to be $140. Again, we're going into fall. We're going to start turning down some of the nuclear power plants. And of course, that also means we've got some maintenance to be done here on some of these power plants. And that means volatility. Let's take a look at the the weather here. And as you can see, we start seeing some cooler temperatures appear in Calgary, 45 degrees, pushing down toward Colorado. And then you can see this colder air is going to shift over toward the Great Lakes and New England states as we get through the forecast period here. That is going to be the common theme for the next two weeks here. As you can see, cooler temperatures are starting to encroach on the northern tier of the United States here. Look at these temperatures. Calgary, 33 degrees. Then you start seeing even cooler temperatures pop up here right around the Great Lakes, up into Wisconsin, all the way back over toward New England here. And that continues as we go into October the 6th. Some cooler temperatures starting to come into the interior here. Pennsylvania, New York State, New Hampshire, New uh, Vermont here, Maine, all starting to cool down into the 30s here on the wind chills. And as you can see, that continues through the 6th here and to the 7th. And then, as you can see, cooler temperatures starting to pull up again in Canada, especially around Calgary. Look at Calgary, 24 degrees on the 10th. But we're still in the 70s here along the Gulf Coast here, especially down here in Houston area. 89 degrees there on the forecast map. We can't seem to get into fall, but look at Calgary, 25 degrees here. It is going to get quite cool here. Uh, there's 19 on the forecast. That cooler weather starts to push off some of this heat. But then again, look at October the 13th, 99 degrees down here in Houston. Come on, give us a break, will you? And we got to push that warmer temperature finally out here as we get into the late into the forecast period. Mid-October, it looks like we're going to push this heat offshore. And let's take a look at the 6 to 10 day temperature outlook. And as you can see, above normal temperatures out in the West here, above, of course, Florida. Good place to go for the winter. But look at the 8 to 14 day temperature outlook. There's that below normal temperatures coming in into the Mid-Atlantic, into the Ohio Valley, and yes, some below normal temperatures coming into Texas. That is mostly rain. And here is the Super El Nino trade, right? We've started to see these winter contracts go into a trend here back in April here, back April 15th, 14th, 15th here. And we're continuing to come off. We did test the upper bound of those that trend here with the MXP line 100 outage, but of course, it came back online. We're giving that all back up. So, keep a careful eye on it. Winter, that short winter trade is a very crowded trade. And let's take a look at Europe. It is 71.2% full here. Injections are staying fairly strong. They'll need it because there are certain countries with five weeks left to go that are nowhere near close to the target of 80%. And that includes Germany, the big dog at 58%. Of course, the United Kingdom is around 35%, and of course, you're looking at the uh, Netherlands at 58% and Belgium 62%. We'll keep a careful eye on all those countries, especially the UK. Let's take a look at Europe. It is a mixed bag for weather here. Warmer temperatures right now. This continues into October the 1st here. Then we get some cooler temperatures in Eastern Europe, over into Turkey, Ukraine, and Russia. Then we get some cool weather coming in off the North Atlantic. That that is helpful here as we go through the forecast. UK finally cooling down, same thing with France. And then, as you can see, it seems to be fairly normal as we get into the second week of October. Let's take a look at the gas situation in the UK. I'm going to switch myself over here. And there's some good news. They're not pulling from storage today. That's great news. Their supply is all Norway and LNG, but they're really not injecting much into storage here. 0.53,000 cubic meters. That's not very good. Still exporting to the continent here. This is going to the Netherlands. This is going to Belgium. Again, there is mostly here to power stations and of course, their local distribution zones or utilities. Let's take a look at the bigger picture. This is total gas storage here in the UK. LNG stored is over 16.5% full. Gas storage is about 18% full. So, about 35% full. And again, rough storage is continuing to be absolutely zero. Let's take a look at the uh, Asia, well, the national balancing point. It is popping up a little bit today, up 1.31% here. This is Penn uh, excuse me, this is dollars per MMBTU here. Uh, again, this actually, this is yesterday's close here. But it is starting to move again on headlines. So, the straight up or moves is again in contest here. There are ships transiting with their transponders off, but of course, this is a market that is very, very reactive. And let's take a look at Asia. Speaking of reactive here, we get cooler temperatures going through Beijing, as we saw, into the Koreas and Japan. This continues for a few days before before some warmer temperatures come back in here around the 7th of October. And then it's really kind of a mixed bag before we get some cooler weather popping back in again here toward October the 14th. India stays fairly cool. And let's take a look at the Asian Pacific weather here. Of course, we got Surigae, I think is the how you pronounce this, heading up toward Japan. We've got another storm system here we're keeping a careful eye on. There's Nolo. This is Rachel, and there is Polo right here. There is also an investigation on this particular storm system here. So, very, very interesting. Polo is heading up toward the Panhandle of Texas and New Mexico, and Oklahoma, excuse me, up into New Mexico first, and then possibly pulling right back down toward San Antonio. We'll see on the weather model runs. It's quite interesting. Over in the Atlantic, here is Hanna, and there is Fay heading south. Unbelievable. There is the situation for India with the monsoonal rains. Still need some more water. It's going to be quite dry here for the next few days. That's not good news. They need the rain for growing crops here, and it looks like they're going to come up short. Let's take a look at the LNG, and we're going to keep a careful eye here on Kinemac because this is up in Canada. This is LNG Canada. They had a boat transiting out yesterday. Another one came in. This is the Gaslog uh, Gladstone here. And again, this seems to be a nice rotation pushing boats in and out. Again, Canada is now expanding LNG Canada. This is going to also expand Cedarlink pipeline. So everything is starting to go pedal to the metal up in Canada for new LNG. Let's take a look at US LNG. Cameron again, running steady here at 1.428. Nothing's changed there. Still needs to uh, continue to push up here toward 1.56 as temperatures cool off. Let's take a look at Freeport LNG, running fairly steady here around 1.8. Let's take a look at Creole Trail, one of the pipelines that feeds Sabine Pass. It is eased up a little bit here, 1.388. So that needs to be improved. And Corpus Christi has a little bit more room, but it is running steady at 2.56. Here is Venture Global. This is Calcasieu Pass, running 1.5, so that's down a little bit here. And Corpus Christi, excuse me, this is Plaquemines. We already talked about Corpus Christi. Plaquemines running over uh, 4 BCF. That's good news there. And here is some good news. Golden Pass, almost 600,000 MMBTU for Train 1. So, hopefully, this is on a better trajectory. Let's take a look at the Gulf of America/Mexico. And as you can see, we've got a bunch of storms firing up along this line here, right all the way from Cozumel, all the way back up into uh, the Yucatan here. So, that's interesting news. We'll keep a careful eye on that. See if there's any storm development. And in the Atlantic, we talked about Hanna to the north. It is continuing to move along here at about 15 miles an hour. It is still just a tropical storm. Fay is also a tropical storm, moving about 13 miles an hour southwest direction. And let's take a look at the bigger picture. Again, there is Rachel over here in the Pacific here. Uh, Polo is off the screen here, but pushing all that moisture up into New Mexico and into Texas here. There is Hanna. There is Fay. Gonzalo disappeared. So, we'll we've got fairly active Mid-Atlantic, but nothing in the way of a hurricane just yet. And there is the tropical hazards. Again, in the Gulf, right around Bay of Campeche, and of course, the Pacific side of Mexico. And there is Tropical Storm Hanna. Yes, Fay here to the south is moving southwest. Tropical Storm Hanna is moving to the east southeast. Weird. Let's take a look at Polo. Here is Polo. It's made landfall right now. It's into Mexico, and it is going to push up toward the Panhandle, Texas, Oklahoma, as it goes through New Mexico, and then pushes back southward toward San Antonio. It's interesting. We'll keep a careful eye on it, but this area could use the rain. That's good news there. And as you can see, there is a good chance here that we get a good soaking in that San Antonio, back all the way up to Dallas, Fort Worth corridor. That's good news there. And here is the Saharan Air Layer here, which has been inhibiting all storm development in Mid-Atlantic. We'll see whether or not uh, Fay runs into this as it heads southeast. But looks like most of it now is contained in the continent. So, not seeing big plumes coming off the coast just yet. And here is the thing that we're going to be keeping a really careful eye on as we get into winter. Look at the pooling of cooler temperatures in the water here off of Hawaii, pushing over toward Baja California and up toward the Pacific Northwest, the United States. Watch as this affects potentially the trajectory of the jet stream. Does it kick it north? Does it pull it back down toward the southeast later in winter? That is going to be the the really the crux of the problem is the back end of winter. As El Nino fades quickly, is that going to push much colder temperatures into the Southeast of the United States? We'll keep a careful eye on it, but I think this is going to be a big story later. And let's take one last look at Gatun Lake here. It is improved here, up 0.2 feet. That's good news there. They need the water, and this is pushing up, as expected here, toward near normal temperatures by the time they get toward the end of November. That's good news there because they're worried about El Nino and having water for transits through the Panama, Neo um, Neopanamax and Panamax locks. So that's always important. And let's take a look at the stocks here in the oil and gas E&P sector. Stocks between two and 10 billion dollars have a high short float, over 10%. And right now, it's a mixed bag here. Unfortunately, things are looking slightly negative here for Landbridge behind me at 0.66%. Matador down 0.09%. So, really, only one that's positive right now is CRK and CNX at this moment. Again, recapping for the spot November contract. It's trading at 30470, down 5.9 cents here. We're just under 2%. So, as you can see, the RSI is still crossed to the downside.
