"summary": "The natural gas market is experiencing mixed signals. While October futures are slightly up, LNG exports are disappointing, and the RSI is moving sideways. Storage expectations for the upcoming EIA report are bullish compared to last year and the five-year average, but a wide range suggests potential volatility. Lingering heat in the US Southeast and parts of Europe is noted, though cooler temperatures are expected to spread across the US and parts of Asia in the coming weeks. European storage levels are a concern, particularly in Germany and Great Britain.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Wednesday, September the 16th, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And for the spot October natural gas contract, we're currently up, but just barely. We're currently trading at 2.9230, up four ticks here. And as you can see, we're above the 13 and 48 period exponential moving averages, but they have not crossed to the upside. So, the RSI now is going sideways. We were higher overnight. What's going on? Well, LNG is starting to disappoint a little bit. Weather's positive, but LNG's fallen back a little bit here. Let's take a look at the hourly chart here. And as you can see, we are above the daily pivot, which came in today at 2.9140, but we are now struggling to get over first resistance at 2.9570, and we seem to be pulling back down on the RSI. It's in a sell mode right here. Again, storage expectations tomorrow, somewhere between plus 42 and plus 50 right now. That goes up against last year's plus 87 and the five-year average of plus 74. So, it's a bullish report this week. It's a bullish report next week. We've got lingering heat, but now we've got LNG slipping a little bit. Let's take a look at the winter contract here. This is February. And as you can see, we are just hovering around this 3.5350 area here right now. We are currently at 3.505. Again, this is kind of that congestion we talked about here. Severe weather Europe has said, hey, take a look at the model runs here. The back end of this super El Niño could show up as cold weather in the Southeast for the United States. So, we'll keep a careful eye on it because I think we're going to have a lot of volatility this winter. Let's take a look at ERCOT here. We are going to be just below 87,000 megawatts here. Yes, we've got that lingering heat, heat in the city here today, 105. God bless us. And renewables right now, we're going to be just over 37,000 megawatts, which means that natural gas is picking up more of the market share for the fuel mix. Currently right now, just under 45%. As you can see, over 28,800. Why? Wind is low at 5,000. It is going to stay fairly muted today. Let's take a look at the national grid. And as you can see, ERCOT, a little bit of volatility this morning at 126. It was not expected to get over $81 today. The volatility is probably going to be in PJM. Expected to be $352.88 to the peak. And as you can see, MISO 275.91. So, that's where our extreme heat risk, excuse me, is coming in. And on allergies here, sorry. Let's take a look at the extreme heat risk map here. And of course, today, because of that lingering heat in Texas, we are having 27 million people under extreme heat risk. This is from Houston, Dallas, all the way back up to St. Louis. This continues tomorrow here with 20 million people. And then it starts to ease up. Again, this heat is starting to be pushed down to the Southeast here. As you can see, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, it's almost all gone. No extreme heat risk here, only 250,000. And then it's really down to moderate and major heat risk. But generally speaking, look at the cooler temperatures starting to come all the way down into New Mexico, all the way down into Oklahoma, all the way back down into Southern New Jersey. So, looks like fall is starting to knock on the door. And let's take a look at the models past the runs there. And as you can see, triple digits stop. They end up here around the 24th. And then, as you can see, cooler temperatures are starting to come in through the Pacific Northwest, heading all the way down into Colorado. There is some cooler weather around the Great Lakes and New England. But look at the cone, this warm temperatures, this heat chimney, if you will call it, all the way through the center part of the country, from Texas all the way back up to Manitoba and Saskatchewan. So, looks like that is going to be the pattern right now. Look at this heat, this lingering here, late in the forecast period here. There it is, the end of September. You can see the cooler weather around the Great Lakes, all the way down to Tennessee, and back up toward New Jersey. Cooler temperatures coming in from Canada, excuse me, I'm tripping on my words again. And as you can see, pushing all the way down into Colorado. But look at that chimney of heat coming through Texas all the way back up to the north. And as you can see, going into October the 1st, that continues. All right, there's the 6 to 10 day temperature outlook. Again, there's that above normal temperatures in the Southeast. That's continuing through the 8 to 14. It is now contained in South Texas through Louisiana. But again, that chimney of heat is rising all the way straight up into Canada here. Again, the coasts are starting to cool down, but in the interior center of the country, it is still relatively warmer than normal. And here is Europe. And as you can see, going through the forecast period right now, it is starting to get warm, and then it starts to cool off a little bit here as we go through the forecast here. And let's see, it's starting to do the runs again. And there's cooler weather coming through parts of France and Germany. That's really relatively normal. Here is some above normal temperatures showing up by the 19th and 20th. And we're running through the model runs again. And here is the 20th. It is starting to get warm yet again in France and Spain. But Germany and parts east are starting to cool off. Look at that, 22nd. Spain, Portugal, and France are very, very warm, including the eastern part of the UK. But then the interior of the of Europe is starting to cool off. We get these continuous waves. But look at this warm temperature here again, on the 27th for France. And again, back on the 29th, very, very warm. So, it looks like this is oscillating back and forth. Warmer temperatures, basically, west of Germany. Everything east of Germany continues to cool off a little bit. And let's take a look at the storage here. It is 68.5% full across the EU. We've got our problem countries. Again, let's take a look at Germany, excuse me, Great Britain here. And that is still relatively flat here for the last two weeks. It may be because Rough storage is completely empty. And that is the majority of storage in the UK. So, that means that the other secondary storage fields may be full at this stage, but Rough remains empty. So, this may continue to go sideways. Let's take a look at Germany. That's the largest consumer of natural gas in Europe here. It is below normal here. It is below below five and 10 year averages here. And so, it is going to struggle to get to 70% full by November the 1st. We're currently only 56% full. Let's take a look at the UK. These are the natural gas prices. It is down a little bit right now. It was up a little earlier. This is pence per therm. We're currently down 37 pence to 202.21. But as you can see, the RSI is turning sideways here. This continues to be very, very strong. This is for the November contract. And let's take a look at the weather across Asia right now. As you can see, some rainfall here into Japan here, north of Tokyo. There is some into Eastern India here, the Southeast Asia, and of course, the Philippines. China is relatively dry, except for above north of Shanghai to Beijing. So, let's take a look at the temperatures. And as you can see, Tokyo, 66 degrees. Boy, that sounds nice. Uh, Beijing, 79 degrees. New Delhi, 89 degrees. Everybody is cooler than Houston. And let's take a look at the weather map. And as you can see, we start to see cooler temperatures coming through here for the next few days. That includes Japan, the Koreas, Eastern China, and India. But then we get warmer temperatures from Shanghai back up to Beijing before cooler temperatures start to show up yet again. And we can see that coming in through Mongolia here, at the very end of the forecast. Sorry, we're going to have a little bit of run there. There it is. There is Japan cooling off here. Korea's cooling off on the 29th. Same thing for Eastern China up through Shanghai and parts north. The Beijing is staying a little bit warmer. But you can see India relatively normal. And let's take a look at the LNG across the globe. And here is Qatar. There is one LNG vessel loading up at Qatar for LNG. That's good news there. But as you can see, the Strait of Hormuz is relatively quiet. Again, we've got congestion off Abu Dhabi and Oman. There is relatively a light amount of traffic getting through the Strait of Hormuz, probably with their transponders off. And let's take a look at Cameron. There is no critical news here, um, or notices here for Cameron, but it looks like one out of three trains is now down. We're currently running 962,000 here MMBtu's out of 1.56. So, let's take a look at that. There is Cameron here. It's on Calcasieu. And as you can see, there's one, two, and three trains. We don't know which one is down for the moment. But as you can see, this is on the main channel here for Lake Calcasieu. So, there is down here on the south side. That's Calcasieu Pass, and this is CP2 under construction. Let's take a look at Freeport. That's relatively stable here at 1.848. That's good news there. Here is Creole Trail, one of the pipelines that feeds Sabine Pass. It is running just under 1.5 here. That's good news there. Here is Corpus Christi LNG doing well here at 2.57. Not bad there. He's up a little bit. Same thing here for uh Cameron. This is uh feeding uh we just talked about Venture Global's. Uh and this is running at 1.53 basically right now. That's good news there. Here is Plaquemines running at 3.9. Again, the up to capacity here for the design because they're expanding it. But again, it is running right now close to nameplate capacity and current capacity. Here is Golden Pass running over 500,000. Again, it's just kind of slowly getting there. But we are going to see if cooler weather can finally kick this into gear and get up to 800 to 850,000 MMBtu's. Let's hope so. And let's take a look at the tropics. This is the system out in the Mid-Atlantic here. It's got a 30% chance of formation over the next seven days. It does not look good at all. Let's take a look at the water temperatures out here. 85 degrees out in the Atlantic here. 87, 86 in the Gulf. This is pretty warm temperatures here. Here is the Gulf. And as you can see, more of that east-west flow, strangely enough. And that is pushing from Florida all the way back up toward Texas right now. But there are some thunderstorms in the area. Nothing of danger at this stage. Nothing for formation. But as the Mid-Atlantic here is that 30% chance of formation out here. Really, really disorganized. There is some energy coming off of Africa right now. We've got two systems here. We're keeping a careful eye on. They'll probably merge into one. And there is the risk. There is the risk from September the 23rd all the way through the 29th. Talking about those two areas here. And that's off the Atlantic here. And of course, coming off of Africa. How about that Saharan Air Layer? Well, that's going to inhibit any storm development. As you can see, they're going to run into it right again here. There is still some dust pushing into Central America and into Mexico, and even all the way up into Oklahoma. Let's take a look at the oil and gas E&P sector. Stocks between two and 10 billion dollars have a high short float over 10%. And as you can see, it is a sea of red today. Behind me, Landbridge down 1.86%. And let's take a look again for the October natural gas contract. We're currently at 2.936, up 1.7 cents or 0.58%. Weather models still warm. There is no tropical activity for the Atlantic. This is going to set a record by Friday. And as you can see right now, LNG's down a little bit here. So, we're going sideways. Again, storage expectations for tomorrow, somewhere between plus 42, plus 50. So, it's a wide range. Expect some volatility. But it is bullish versus last year and the five-year average. Same thing for next week. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below. Please hit that like and subscribe button. Thanks for listening. We'll see you tomorrow.",
