"summary": "The natural gas market is down for the third consecutive day, trading at $2.788 for the October contract. While a bullish storage report is expected today (+31 BCF vs. +69 BCF last year and +52 BCF 5-year average), the market is struggling to rally due to lower power loads and potentially higher production. Texas is experiencing uncomfortably hot temperatures, boosting natural gas demand for power generation, but cooler weather is on the horizon for parts of the US and Europe. European gas storage is behind schedule, particularly in Great Britain, while US LNG export facilities are running near full capacity, though Golden Pass Pipeline is struggling.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Thursday, September the 10th, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And for the spot October natural gas contract, we're down. We're trading 2.7780, down 4.4 cents, or a little over 1.5%. And as you can see, we never did get the crossover for the 13 and 48 period exponential moving averages, and we've been three straight days down. Today is storage day. Expectations around plus 31 BCF, last year plus 69, the five-year average plus 52. So, we should get a bullish storage report today versus last year and the five-year, as well as next week. And that's good news, but for natural gas, we just can't seem to create a rally here. Why not? Well, lower power loads in the future, and possibly higher production numbers here around 114 BCF per day. LNG's improving, but it's just not able to keep up. Let's take a look at the hourly chart. And here we are right now. We are below the daily pivot, which came in today at 2.8430. The RSI, though, is turning higher from an oversold condition right now. We are holding above or around that first support level here at 2.778. That's exactly where we are right now. Let's see if we turn higher after the storage report. And let's take a look at something else that's going on. And this is crude oil. We haven't put this up in a long time, and here it is. It's over $100 today. That's right. We peaked out at 100.88 cents here for WTI. As you can see, the Iran war is still full go. Why does it matter? Because the Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed, and it's going to be closed probably for the rest of this year. That means that LNG is going to be a bidder's war all the way through winter. Let's take a look at the front-to-back spreads here for the United States. And this is Jan versus the October. And as you can see, we hit that last gap just three sessions ago, and it closed right there at the low there at 92.7, but we rebounded, and we have since turned higher. Right now we're up 2.9 cents here to 102.90. Our first target here, 104.60, that was our first gap, and that has been filled and is now resistance. So, the RSI's turning higher. It looks like this spread is completely done and heading its way back toward 125. Let's take a look at the ERCOT grid. We've got some positive news here. Expectations right now for the grid are just over, excuse me, 86,500 megawatts. Wind and solar will peak out early today over 35,000. Wind, though, look at this. It's down again toward 2,409 megawatts. Very low wind. Why? Because we're still uncomfortably hot. We're sitting in the low 90s here for the next 10 days as our high in ERCOT. That's going to help natural gas. Right now, it is picking up just under 30,000 megawatts here, or almost 46% of the fuel mix. That's good news. Again, this is picking up where wind is losing. So, as you can see right now, for the national grid, up, just popped off again. We did see some volatility yesterday. Again, uh, for this particular, oops, we're going to pop it up one more time. Come on. Let's see if this works. All right, we're going to just skip that for the moment here. Let's take a look at the heat risk here, and there it is. 11 and a half million people under heat risk, mainly in the Desert Southwest, Texas, all the way back up into Mississippi and Arkansas. This continues as we go into the weekend here, mainly in Texas. That's right. It is still uncomfortably hot in Texas, all the way from Dallas to Houston, all the way down into South Texas. And as you can see, going forward, look at the cooler temperatures on the backside. Cooler temperatures from the Pacific Northwest, dropping down into Colorado, and as you can see, all the way down into upper Missouri. So, South Missouri looking a little bit warm, but Northern Missouri is catching some of that cooler weather that's coming in. And let's look at the forecast model past the 17th here. Here we go. There it is. There's some triple digits still popping up on the screen here, mainly in Texas, parts of the Desert Southwest, but there's cooler weather on the horizon. As you can see, there it is. We're seeing cooler temperatures dropping in in that general direction from Calgary, all the way back down into New Mexico. In fact, the heaters are on at night in Calgary. It's into the 40s there, as you can see, 48 degrees. So, that means there space heaters are starting to turn on in Calgary. Now, not in the United States so much, but Texas still remains fairly warm. And there it is. There's the last of the hundreds there's right there in Florida. So, we're looking at less sunlight, as you can tell. We are going to be at the solar equinox on the 22nd. It means everything in the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere are receiving the exact same sunlight. So, the sun is exactly at the equator. But again, this is another sign that we're moving out from summer into fall. Let's take a look at Europe here. And this is some cooler weather is starting to come into France right now. Warmer temperatures are out in Poland and parts of Eastern Europe. As you can see, we get some warmer temperatures coming back into France again on the 13th, into the UK and Ireland as well. Then we start to see some cooler temperatures pop in for a little bit. Then they get another blast of warmer temperatures here, right at the back end of September here. But then, bang. Look at this colder air coming in off the Northern Atlantic. This is on the 23rd. So, clearly, we are starting to see the last remnants of summer exiting parts of Europe. And let's take a look at the European storage. It is 67.3% full. Again, this is okay. It's sitting on historical injection averages, but we are supposed to get up to 80% full. That's their target by November the 1st. That's not possible. And we do have some problems. Obviously, the biggest one is Great Britain. But looks like the injection numbers have been going flat for a number of days now. We don't know if this is a data collection problem. But either way, they're in some serious trouble. At this point, they're only at 30 to 35% full. That's not good news. Let's turn to Asia. And here we are. We're seeing some cooler temperatures coming across Asia. There is plenty of monsoonal rains here coming into India and parts of Southeast Asia. And let's take a look at the temperatures. As you can see, Tokyo 68 degrees, Beijing 70, Hong Kong only 79, New Delhi 86. These are all cooler than Houston. Anyway, let's take a look at the anomaly map for Asia as well. And as you can see, cooler temperatures dominate here Eastern China, parts of Korea and the Japan. Then warmer temperatures start to show back up again. This is on the 15th. So, Shanghai, north of Shanghai, all the way back to Beijing. And then cooler temperatures start to pop in again as we get late in the forecast period. So, this is the 24th. Cooler temperatures across Japan, parts of Southeastern, uh, China, all the way back into India. And let's take a look at the Gulf. This is Qatar. Nothing is loading there. Here is the Strait of Hormuz. Very little traffic moving through there, at least with their transponders on. But again, this is choked. This is not open to traffic here. There are there's a shooting war between the Iran and the US. So, no tanker is safe trying to transit this particular strait anytime soon. And let's take a look at the US. Cameron doing very well, 1.531 out of 1.56. So, it's near 95% or plus of capacity utilization. That's great news there. They could use it in Europe and Asia. Here is Freeport, running 1.84. And let's take a look at Creole Trail, which feeds Sabine Pass. Again, this is steady as she goes. There is still some capacity open there for expansion. And here is Corpus Christi, running almost at nameplate capacity, 2.7 out of 2.75. Fantastic news. And here is Venture Global Calcasieu Pass. Still running fairly the same. Again, it's running 1.65. That's standard right now. And here is Plaquemines, over nameplate capacity, 3.992. That's fantastic news there. But, yeah, Golden Pass falling down again. 340,000 MMBtu's. Not a clue as to what's going on here. Unfortunately, this means that we are going to be lucky if Train 1 ever reaches nameplate capacity before the end of the year. It's been struggling. And let's take a look at the tropical activity. Nothing's expected for the next seven days across the Atlantic. Let's take a look at the Gulf. And as you can see, plenty of moisture here off the coast of Texas, especially here off of Corpus Christi and parts of Houston. Plenty of activity off of Louisiana and Florida. But overall, there's no storms here, at least not the threat of any development anytime soon. Let's take a look at the bigger picture. Yep, there is some activity coming off the coast of Africa. Nothing has formed in the middle Atlantic, and doesn't look like it will. Why? Well, we'll see that in just a second. Here is the tropical hazards, and it's expected to be off the Bahamas in the third week into September. Don't know what's going to happen there, but the models are indicating something may happen. But it's unlikely. Why? Because the Saharan Air Layer is just too extensive. This is a massive plume, and it continues to come off the coast. Means that any storms are going to run into this dust, and that precipitation is going to drop. Unfortunately, that means the Atlantic hurricane season is going to be basically dead. And here we go for the volcano, Krakatau. This is Anak Krakatau, the son of Krakatau, and it has actually diminished a little bit. So, that's good news for Indonesia. But let's take a look at the bigger picture. And this is the earthquake map along the Java Trench. And as you can see, everything from 4.3 to 5.3 magnitude here in the last four days. So, this means this entire trench, this Ring of Fire area is fairly active. The volcano is right in here, right where the E and R are for Tangerang, and that means that there is only 100 miles to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. So, we'll keep a careful eye on it, but right now it's kind of blown its top for a little bit, calmed down. We'll see if it ramps right back out. Let's take a look at the stocks. These are stocks in the oil and gas E&P sector, stocks between 2 and 10 billion dollars. Have a high short float over 10%, and it's a mixed bag. Mainly, it is negative. LB behind me, Landbridge is down 0.21%. Matador up 0.76%. So, it's a mixed bag, unfortunately. Here it is again for the spot October natural gas contract. We're currently trading at 2.7880, down 3.4 cents, or 1.2%. Today is storage day. Expectations, plus 31 BCF. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
