While current hot weather across the South and Midwest, coupled with bullish EIA storage reports expected for the next two weeks, supports higher prices, weather models show some long-term cooling. Geopolitical tensions and European energy concerns also play a role. LNG export facilities are running strong, but Golden Pass Pipeline is underperforming.",

"transcript": "Good morning, natural gas. It's Monday, August the 31st, 2026. I'm Tim Beggins, President of Elk Trading Company. And this is the top news for natural gas. Number one, the Iran and US exchange fire. As a result, crude oil and gas prices are higher. Number two, Venture Global CP2 clears legal hurdle. Number three, CNOOC, that's Chinese National Oil Company, has signaled its intent to look into US energy projects. And number four, there is a tropical system off the coast of Louisiana, that has a 70% chance of development. Let's turn to the spot October natural gas contract. Currently, right now, we're trading at 2904, up 1.6 cents or almost 0.55%. As you can see, the trend is higher. We still have not crossed the 13 and 48 period exponential moving averages. But the RSI is moving higher and is still open to further upside. What's going on? Well, we've got current hot, hot weather here across the South and up through the Midwest. But the 12Z model runs last night took away some of that strength out there in the weather, longer-term period. So, unfortunately, the hedge funds decided, hey, let's try and sell it down again. So, as you can see, overnight, we did positive up here, but then we went down to negative territory, and we're back in slightly positive. Let's turn to the hourly chart. And as you can see, we got close here, almost to the daily first resistance here at 293 and a half. We are just kind of waffling back and forth around the daily pivot, which is 288 and a half. The RSI is turning to the upside. So, we'll look for another test of 293 and a half. Again, the RSI is pointing higher. That should be our path of least resistance. And let's take a look at why. Because this is the EIA storage report from last week, where it was plus 15, big surprise. South Central pulled even more from the salt dome. And this week, we should pull again from salt because we had a very, very warm Texas. So, what's going on? Well, last year, injections were plus 50, the five-year average plus 37. So, this week and next week should be bullish storage reports against both last year and the five-year average. Let's turn to ERCOT. And here it is. We're going to be at 89,000 megawatts today. There is going to be a little bit more wind today. We are going to get up to about 41,000 for renewables today between solar and wind. But natural gas is holding on to a steady market share here, just under 40%. So, as you can see, 25,000 megawatts for natural gas. Solar has just eclipsed it, and wind is moving along. But wind is light. It is still just catching up. It was very low last week. It is picking up a little bit this week. Let's turn to the national grid. We did see some volatility in ERCOT and PJM yesterday. We have seen some volatility early this morning in ERCOT here before solar kicked in. And as you can see right now, everything is expected to be fairly benign. Maybe SPP's got a little bit of activity here. But look at New, uh, this is Ontario here, uh, IESO, that's Ontario. And it is already picking up volatility this morning, over $113 there. So, we'll keep a careful eye on that. Let's turn to windy.com. And this is the wind accumulation map. As you can see, we've got a storm system here off Louisiana. We'll talk about that in a few minutes. But as you also can see here, the wind, the wind is picking up from Corpus Christi, all the way back through the backbone of Texas, Oklahoma, up into Kansas, and then up over into Missouri and Iowa. Well, this is where wind turbines are. So, we're getting a little bit more wind nationally across the grid right now. And let's turn to the heat index map. And this is where we really where we get some bullishness here. We've got seven and a half million people under extreme heat risk here. Why? Because the heat risk is from parts of Texas all the way back up into Iowa here. This expands as we get into tomorrow. This encompasses St. Louis here, parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas. And then it really expands on Wednesday, into Thursday. We've got almost 100 million people under major or extreme heat risk here on Thursday. That dissipates a little bit on Friday, but as you can see, there is still heat risk all the way back up to the Dakotas, back to Virginia, and all the way down to Florida and Texas. So, there is a little bit of cooler weather that does come in, pushes this off by Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Let's take a look at the models here. And let's push it out through the seventh here. And as you can see, there is triple digits here still. Dallas here, 105. Houston, 105, right around here, unfortunately. And then you start to see some hundreds all the way back into Mississippi as well. But then as you can see, going forward in the forecast period, there is some expansion here of some of the warmer temperatures, but not major triple digits there for a while. It looks like it's just going to be triple digits along Texas and along some of East Coast here as late as the 13th. But look at the cooler temperatures on the backside of this. This is Minneapolis at 59 degrees. Chicago at 74. Boston at 74. So, that dissipates some of the heat, and that looks like here comes fall. There is the last forecast there on the 14th here. Houston still 104. God bless us. It's going to be stupidly hot for a while. And of course, it's 104 all the way back up into North Carolina here late in the period. But, as you can see, there is some cooler temperatures on the Great Lakes, all the way back up toward New England. Let's take a look at the 6-10 day. Yep, there's the bullseye right over Oklahoma and Kansas for the above normal temperatures. And then that dissipates a little bit, it pushes it to the South here in South Texas and parts of Florida. But as you can see, the heat dome still continues in the South Central part of the country. So, that means storage, especially from the salts, are going to be pulled on for the next two weeks. Let's take a look at the European. This is the National Balancing Point for January. This was as of Friday, and the things were down a little bit on hopes that maybe the Strait of Hormuz would start to reopen. But things are still relatively closed. And with the shooting war continuing, it's going to be doubtful if natural gas prices globally are going to be able to come down anytime soon. And here is the TTF. It's trading about 50 cents below National Balancing Point. Why? We'll see in a second here. The UK storage is in terrible condition. Let's take a look at Europe here. And this is the forecast, and it is running hot here for France yet again. We expect warmer temperatures to move in. There's in the third for Spain, into Southern France here. Comes up into the fourth. There is the heat coming in on the fourth across Spain, all the way across the Alps there. And then it continues again. There is the sixth. There is the heat really centered across Central France, into parts of Italy, Southern Germany, as you can see, and Spain and and even down toward the boot of Italy as well. So, cooler temperatures do arrive before we start to see some warmer temperatures back in the forecast map for France yet again on the 14th. So, let's take a look at the EU storage. It's 64.7% full. We've got two months to go. And that means they've going to be barely able to catch up to about 75 to 77% full. As you can see, injections are staying strong here over the last few sessions. But, let's take a look at the ones that have problems. Belgium. They're definitely kicking in right now, 54%. They're in some serious trouble. But, they are at least responding here with some record injections. That's good news there. Let's turn to France. France, unfortunately, is starting to pick up, but it is still at 70% full. And here's Germany. This could be a problem here. 52.6% full. Injections are also starting to ramp up. And the big problem here, obviously, Great Britain. This is 31.3% full. Injections are just not responding at this time. So, I don't know what they are going to do this winter. It's going to be hand-to-mouth in the UK. Let's take a look at the Netherlands. And that is also picking up on injections. But, it is still crawling along. It may at this point reach only about 61 and a half percent full. Let's turn to Asia. This is some cooler weather here. We've got some warmer temperatures just around the capital city of Beijing. But, it is cooler across. These are the temperature anomaly maps here. And as you can see, the Eastern provinces of China, and of course, India and as well as Japan and the Koreas is looking a little bit cooler on the forecast period here. It is still warm. That is for sure. It's still summer out there. But, it at least is not oppressively hot at this stage. So, let's take a look at the maritimes. And this is the loadings here. We're going to center it on Corpus Christi because it's doing really well. And take a look. There are two vessels loading up here at Corpus Christi. That's right. Two. Nicely done here. This is Port Aransas. And as you can see, there's Corpus Christi right itself. And how about the Cameron LNG? It is running 1.5. That's fantastic out of 1.56 capacity. Also doing well. Freeport, 2 Bcf. Really well. And here is Calcasieu, uh, excuse me, this is Creole Trail. This feeds Sabine Pass. And it's still doing fairly well, 1.38. That's not too bad. And here is Corpus Christi. 2.65 out of 2.75. So, fantastic news loading up two vessels there. And here is Venture Global. This is Calcasieu Pass. Steady as she goes there. Still some open capacity for expansion. That's good news because CP2 has cleared its legal hurdle. And here is Plaquemines, running over nameplate capacity. So, bullish there. But, not so bullish, Golden Pass. Come on, guys. 367,000 MMBtus out of Golden Pass right now. I don't know what it's going to take to get this thing to ramp up to total capacity around 800 to 850,000 MMBtus. Perhaps cooler weather. Good luck. We'll be waiting until December. And let's take a look at the tropics. And there is the remnants of Dolly. That's right. She's only got about a 10% chance of reformation there. And there is our big one. 70% chance just off the coast of Louisiana. Possibly heading inland toward Houston or maybe just Louisiana. We'll see. And there is the remnants of Dolly. This is Hispaniola. This is Haiti here on the left. Dominican Republic on the right. It has been giving some good rain to Puerto Rico. Could use it there. That was fantastic news. We are seeing some rain across Haiti, as you can see there. And of course, the eastern side of, uh, Dominican Republic, sort of like La Romana area and possibly over here. But, let's take a look at the tropics in the waters. This is the Gulf of America/Mexico. And as you can see, it is bathwater out there. It's 86 degrees. And there's that tropical system there that is picking up on that warm, warm water here. And so, it's got plenty of room to re-establish itself and possibly come in onshore as a tropical development. Dolly is over here in the 83 degree temperature area here, just north of Dominican Republic. And there it is. There is the system off Louisiana. It is bubbling up. It's got some nice, uh, thunderstorms associated with it. We'll see if it's moving generally in a slow northwest position at this stage. We'll keep a careful eye on it. It may be targeting at least Beaumont or Houston. We could use the rain. Hey, and there's the bigger picture here. We do have the remnants of Dolly here off, uh, Dominican Republic. You can barely see it here. There's that system off Louisiana. It's starting to develop. And as you can see, across the Mid-Atlantic, it's starting to fire up a little bit. So, that's good news there. We'll see if anything can develop. But, right now, there is still the Saharan Air Layer. And that's still inhibiting any storm development in the Mid-Atlantic. And there is the tropical hazard outlook. Nothing out there for through September the 15th, it looks like at this stage. So, looking back here at the last graph here, we got the, uh, drought index here. And as you can see, extreme drought, exceptional drought in Oklahoma, all the way back to the Panhandle of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Southern Idaho, and now parts of Oregon. So, not good news there. We definitely could use the rain across the interior west. Let's take a look at the stocks. It's a sea of green. That's right. Stocks between two and 10 billion dollars have a high short float. Things are picking up. We have noted last week that hedge funds are picking up global energy stocks. That's right. Why? Because global crude oil stocks are very low, and it looks like it's going to be hand-to-mouth for Europe on LNG. So, again, recapping here, we are trading now down three ticks, four ticks, five ticks. We're trading 28830 down five ticks on the October natural gas contract.
